New selection of large trees

We now have a selection of more mature trees at Greenshutters Garden Centre.

This year, the old birch tree that was growing in our Plant Area did not shoot new leaves – it had obviously come to the end of its life. It used to provide dappled shade for our shade-loving plants. We thought of building a pergola to create shade but we had some fabulous mature trees that were creating shade below them, so instead of building a shady area, we have created one by making an area for the larger trees where we can create a shady garden area below them. This is making a fantastic display area for our ferns, hostas and other shade loving plants.

We currently have Oak trees (Quercus robur and Quercus palustris), as well as some very large – 4-5 metres tall – Beech (Fagus sylvatica) and upright Hornbeam (Carpinus betulus ‘Fastigiata’). The purple leaves of the Norway Maple (Acer platanoides ‘Crimson King’) look stunning. We also have some Lime Trees (Tilia cordata), Silver Birch (Betula pendula) and some large specimens of the bright white bark of the Himalayan Birch (Betula ulitis ‘Jacquemontii).

We hope you like the new area and if you want to make an impact by planting a tree that is bigger than the usual size you can find in a garden centre then we may be able to help.
